Arts Night
Arts night was a great success! Thank you to all who came out to support the Arts at MCS. We are so proud of the incredible art work our class has completed.
Evening of Song
On Monday, May 8th at 7:00pm our class will be singing at the Evening of Song. They have worked all year for this performance and they sound wonderful. We hope everyone can attend. With such a small class, every voice matters!
Yearbook
I have been working on a K-12 Yearbook. It is coming together well and is now available for purchase online. Every student is able to add two pages of their own photographs; making it a truly personable yearbook. You can find out more by following the link below.

EQAO
At the end of May students will be writing the Grade 3 Provincial Assessment. In order to have students feel comfortable and relaxed, we have started doing some test practice. This involves sitting still and working quietly for longer than the class is used to in order to build stamina. I will be sending home some of the sample activities we have completed as a class for you to review.
Science
We are just completing a unit on Forces before moving on to Plants and Soil. The students have done lots of hands-on experiments to improve their understanding of the Laws of Motion. Last week they worked in teams and as a whole class to build roller coasters.
Language:
We have been continuing to work on writing descriptive paragraphs and I am trying to have students take more time to edit their own work or have a peer edit with them. Often when they take the time to re-read what they have written, they can discover simple errors in grammar and spelling.
In reading, students are working on adding more evidence from a text when responding to something they have read. I am constantly reminding them to ¨back up¨ their thinking!
Math:
We have just completed units on Area and Time. There are a couple of students that still struggle to tell time on an analog clock. Please practice this at home on a regular basis. We also have been working on passage of time. (i.e. if I left at 9:00am what time would I be home if I went for a 3 hour bike ride?). This is tricky for many students.
