No Excuse Words

Today, a sheet with a set of "No Excuse" spelling words was sent home with your child.  We are working on words that are most common in English writing.  The first 100 words occur in 50% of adult and student writing, so if students can master these, and apply the spelling in their writing, they will see a great improvement in the readability of their work.  Please practice the misspelled words with your child.  If there were a number of misspelled words, focus on 5 at a time so your child does not become overwhelmed.  We also pointed out the use of uppercase letters in words that do not begin a sentence or are not proper nouns.  Many students are still using uppercase letters in the middle of words and the only word we spelled in this activity with an uppercase was "I".  We will also be practising them one-on-one in class.  This was not used as an assessment but as a means to determine specific words we need to work on as a class and as individuals.
