School Cash Online - Most school items, e.g., pizza, milk tickets, school trips, etc. can be purchased online instead of sending in cheques or cash with your child.  Sign-up at rcdsb.schoolcashonline.com/.

Scholastic online payment- I have sent home the first round of book orders.  The due date is posted in Important Dates above.  If you prefer to pay online please proceed to canadaclubs.scholastic.ca/en/home and follow the prompts in the Parents:Get Started icon to find our school and me.

Cafeteria - Beginning in grade 4, your child is allowed to access the school cafeteria.  However, from experience, I find their stock to be limited, e.g., there isn't a guarantee that a healthy food option will be available when your child reaches the cafeteria.

PA Day

Just a reminder that tomorrow is a PA Day.

Math

We have started the year with a unit on place value.  Students have been working with manipulatives to help reinforce their understanding of the value of digits and how to compose numbers.

Outdoor Education

We are lucky to have a local teacher/scientist who is willing to volunteer with our class each week to support an outdoor education program.  This is a wonderful opportunity our students to learn science/social studies in a hands-on way.  For now, Mrs. Davies will be joining us on Wednesdays.  Please be sure your child has appropriate footwear and clothing to be prepared for a morning outside.

Grade 4 Students

With the creation of 2 grade 3/4 classes on the first floor this year (in the past grade 4s have primarily been upstairs) we have had to do a bit of adjusting and organizing.  In order to make it possible for the grade 4s on the first floor to go out with the other junior/intermediate students we had to find a classroom for them to eat in on the second floor and be sure they had proper supervision.  The room is almost set up and ready to go so the grade 4s will be moving upstairs for eating times tomorrow (Friday).  Students in grades 4-8 at MCS are also permitted to access the cafeteria.  They will still eat in their rooms but can purchase food in the cafeteria if desired. Those grade 4 students who wish to stay in their 3/4 classroom to eat are welcome to do so and can still access the cafeteria.

First couple of days

We have had a great couple of days getting to know one another.  We completed some team building activities including building structures from spaghetti and marshmallows.  We also began a Week of Inspirational Math today which is a project put on by Stanford University to help students develop a growth mindset when it comes to Math.  The students had a fun time working both sides of their brain by using their dominant and non-dominant hands to complete tasks.

Welcome!

Welcome Class of 2018/2019!!

Welcome to Grade 3 and 4!  What a wonderful class we have this year.  We currently have 22
students in Room 131.  We also have an Educational Assistant in the room, Mrs. James.

We spent the day getting to know one another.  We also attempted to build towers using
marshmallows and spaghetti which turn out to be a very sticky activity!

A great deal of paperwork came home with your child today. Please take some time to look it
over and complete any forms.

We are looking forward to an amazing year in Room 131!
