Fine Arts Night

Our class will no longer be performing at Fine Arts Night. Almost half the class has soccer games out of town that night and won't be able to attend. Instead, our class did a last minute performance at the assembly this afternoon. They did a great job considering we had a few less days to practise than we were expecting. I am hoping to upload a video of the performance to Google Drive and then sharing it with the class so you can see their performance.

Swimming

Our last swim class is on Monday, May 30th.

Long Jump

With track season in full swing, our class decided to give long jump a try. We have some budding track stars in our class!

Pottery Guild

On Wednesday, our class visited the Deep River Potters Guild. With the help of some local artists and parent volunteers, the students learned how to make pinch pots and then added their own creative touches to the pots.  They will be fired in the kiln and then glazed with the hope that they will be ready in time for Fine Arts Night. The students also had the opportunity to see how a potter's wheel works. Thank you once again to Mrs. Smith, who helped to arrange the trip, Mrs. Chiasson and Mrs. Shah for helping out at the Guild.  The children had an amazing time! We can wait to see how the work turns out.

Pottery Guild

On the morning of Wednesday, May 25 (tomorrow), our class will be visiting the Deep River Potters Guild. Working with some long-term artists, including Eva Gallagher, the students will be able to create a piece of ceramics. We hope that these will be completed in time to display on the “M.C.S. Arts Night” on June 1st. We will be walking from the school to arrive at the Guild at 10:00. We will work there until lunch at 11:20. Tracy Smith, who helped to arrange the trip, will accompany us. I am very excited about the trip and believe the students will thoroughly enjoy the experience. Thanks to Tracy for her help in organizing the visit.

Children may get a little messy, so have them dress appropriately!

Field Trip

We have planned a field trip to the Petawawa Heritage Village on June 9th.  Today, all students brought home the permission form with more details about the trip.

Bike Rodeo

On the note that went home today it shows that our bike rodeo time conflicts with our swimming time.  We will be going to swimming as scheduled and pairing up with another class earlier in the day for the bike rodeo.

Swimming

Just a reminder that we have swimming tomorrow (Friday) and a bake sale!

Plants

We have started discussing plants in Science.  Over the next few weeks, students will be doing a research project on a plant of their choice.  Today the class brainstormed some things they would like included in their Google Slideshow, but they have currently only selected their plant.  We will be learning about specific things to include over the next week.
