Initiative Award

Congratulations to Jay and Simon for earning the award for initiative this month. The awards were presented at the character assembly today. Next month's character trait will be optimism. 

Winter Carnival

On February 14th, students celebrated Carnival at MCS. Our class was divided into teams with students from all grade levels. The students participated in a variety of fun events and had a great time doing so. The event was a great success!

Holi

Yesterday, we were joined by Nina Mistry who taught the students about the Hindu celebrations of Holi and Diwali. Students learned about some of the traditions and celebrations surrounding these special holidays. The class also learned about the symbolism behind Rangoli (creating artistic patterns using coloured sand, flowers, etc.). They then created their own Rangoli pattern using coloured plastic pieces.  Thank you to Mrs. Mistry for sharing her expertise!

Cut for the Cure

Just a reminder that T-Shirt orders for Cut for the Cure are due tomorrow.  The pledge forms (for students collecting pledges) need to be in by next week at the latest. 

Photography Workshop

On Friday, our class was lucky to have artist and photographer, George Huff, in our class for a photography workshop.  The students learned the features of good photographs and print advertisements ("the sweet spot", contrast, eyes into the picture, etc.), and how to improve photos.  As a follow up, in small groups they examined individual photographs and determined how they could be improved. They presented their findings to the class. Next week, students will use the iPads to take photos of their own using their new knowledge.

Swimming

Just a reminder that tomorrow (Tuesday) is our swimming day.  Remember your bathing suits and a towel.

Class Party

Tomorrow we will be having a class party to say goodbye to one of our students.  For part of the day, students will be playing games. They are allowed to bring their own electronics, but I will also have a class set of iPad minis for them all to use.  We will be having snacks and drinks as well.  I am making some treats, but students can also bring their own snacks.
