Responsibility Award

Congratulations to Sam and Ainsley for earning the Responsibility Award this month. You did an excellent job of demonstrating this character trait on a regular basis!

Balloon rockets.

Today the students investigated forces while constructing and "launching" balloon rockets.  Local scientist, John Wills, lent his expertise to help the students better understand forces and the laws of motion. Retired teacher, Sian Thomas also helped with the experiment. They greatly enjoyed the activity and were very successful!

Learning Newton's laws.
The assembly begins.
Ready to launch.
Success!
and more success!

Adding a payload.
Making some adjustments.
Putting them to the test once again.

Speeches

Last week a note went home regarding speeches.  Although the grade 2's will not be participating in the Legion contest, I have asked them to write a speech to present to the class.  The speech does not have to be between 3-5 minutes.  It can be shorter.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

Me to We

This week, students have been asked to bring in any spare change to support our Me to We campaign.

Water tally

Tonight I have asked students to keep a tally of everytime they use water.  They should have a sticky note in their agenda with the tallies they have collected so far today.

Snow Day Fun

Some images from the snow day.
Some fun artwork. A lesson on perspective.
Enjoying the big hills created by the plow.
Sydney creating deep snow angels.
Ella, buried in the snow.

Math

We are currently learning about 2D and 3D shapes in Math.  Students are learning how to describe and compare shapes using terminology like sides, vertices, faces, and edges. They have also learned what makes shapes congruent (same size and shape).
Below, students were given 20 Popsicle sticks and they had to make three (then four) different shapes using exactly 20 sticks.

Deep River Orchestra

On Friday the class was treated to a performance and information session about string instruments from The Deep River Orchestra.

Snow Day

On the snow day the students did some measurement experiments with the newly fallen snow. We had lots of fun learning about density and evaporation.
