Pioneer village

The students had a wonderful field trip to The Petawawa Heritage Village today. They learned first-hand what life was like for the pioneers. The school house was a particular favourite. Thank you to all the volunteers who joined us.

Art and science meet

Over the past few weeks, students have  been completing research projects in science. Grade threes researched how plants eat and grow and the grade twos selected an animal and explained what made it "tough". To tie into that, Mrs. McDougall, helped them through an art project that represented a plant or their animal. The artwork is incredible and on display in our hall along with the projects. Thanks to Mrs. McDougall for all her help and expertise!

Historic visit

Local historian, Tom Stephenson, joined our class yesterday to help educate them about pioneer life. The students learned games played by children in pioneer times and played with historic toys. They also learned how to make rope and were each able to make their own skipping rope. The students had a great day!

Cinderella play

Congratulations to all of our students on their amazing performance of Cinderella yesterday. All of their hard work really paid off!

Plants

Our class has been conducting experiments with soil and plants over the last month. We have attempted to grow flower bulbs with no soil (just on rocks), as well as used 4 different soils to grow grass and sunflowers. We are waiting to see which soil is the best, although it is becoming obvious. We also used screens to investigate the properties of different soils.  Students discovered that soil from the woods had a great deal more plant matter than soil from the soccer field.

Cut for the Cure

Today we attended the Cut for the Cure assembly where a large number of students donated their hair in order to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society. Ella and Baraa (and his brother Rayan) bravely stepped up on stage and cut their hair. Such courage!  MCS reached their goal of $20,000!
